Anti-bullying at Neatherd

Our aim is that all pupils are happy and safe at Neatherd, but sadly we do have to be prepared for bullying happening.

Definition of Bullying:

Behaviour by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts, threatens or frightens another individual or group either physically or emotionally.

Bullying is differentiated from a friendship issue by:

  • A deliberate intention to hurt, threaten, frighten or humiliate.
  • Repetition.
  • There is a power imbalance that makes it hard for the victim to defend themselves. This power imbalance can be present amongst friends.

Deliberately harming someone online is always classed as cyber‐bullying (even if a one-off incident).

 Bullying can be:

  • Physical (pushing, kicking, hitting, punching or other violence)
  • Emotional (unfriendly, excluding or tormenting)
  • Verbal (name-calling, sarcasm, spreading rumours or teasing)
  • Cyber (all areas of internet or electronic communication)

Our Anti-Bullying Policy can be found in the policy section of our website. Below however we have listed the means by which a pupil and parents/carers can report incidences of possible bullying:

Pupils can report bullying in 6 ways

  • Reporting to their form tutor in person
  • Reporting to their Pupil Support Officer in person
  • Reporting to any member of staff they feel happy to speak to in person
  • Completion of a ‘I need help’ form obtained from their form tutor
  • Reporting via use of the tootoot app or via https://neatherdhighschool.tootoot.co.uk/login
  • Reporting via the ‘Bully Button’ on the school website

Parents/carers can report bullying in 4 ways

  • Emailing their child’s form tutor directly
  • Emailing the school at office@neatherd.org and make it clear in the subject they are reporting alleged bullying and include the name and year of their child in the message
  • Calling the school on 01362 697981 and stating they wish to report bullying
  • Reporting via the ‘Bully Button’ on the school website
