Reward for Excellent Work Experience

173 students from Dereham Neatherd High School recently completed a week of work experience at local businesses.  Almost 70 of those Year 11 students were now rewarded for excellent reports they received from the employers.  “Our students get so much out of this experience,” says Rob Hodges, Head of Careers, “at school they will learn academically, but being in a workplace for a week will teach them other valuable life skills they can’t learn at school.”

In a special Rewards Assembly the students received certificates for their excellent work.  “We hosted 5 students from Neatherd,” says Jo Pedlow, Headteacher from Toftwood Infant and Toftwood Junior School, “and all of them did brilliant work and really engaged with our children, we are very happy to support the work experience programme.”

The Neatherd students had placements at schools, offices, shops, but also on farms, garages or animal sanctuaries – most of them stayed within Norfolk, but some travelled to Suffolk, West Sussex and Surrey to complete their experience.   “I loved my week at the school, working with adults and children, I feel much more confident now and am considering this as a future career,” says Lilimae Nicholson who spent her work experience at Toftwood Infant School.  “Luke was very helpful and confident during his week with us, it was a pleasure to have him with us,” says Jo Peacock of Premier Travel Agency about her work experience student Luke Maxwell.

“We as a school are very grateful to the local employers who give our students the chance to experience a week in the world of work,” says Dafydd Humphreys, Assistant Headteacher at Dereham Neatherd High School.
