Year 10 Work Experience

Dear parents and carers

You may be aware that all Year 10 students will be taking part in a work experience week during w/c 9th July 2018. Although July next year seems a long time away, we would recommend that students start now to actively seek a suitable placement as many other local schools will be doing their work experience around the same time, so there is a lot of competition for placements. On top of that Norfolk County Council needs enough time to health and safety check and approve every single one of those placements.

We as a school value the Work Experience week immensely as it gives our students a fantastic opportunity to find out about the world of work. Many of our students have blossomed during this week and matured. For a lot of our students it has helped them make decisions about future careers and some of them have even been able to secure Saturday jobs or even apprenticeships during their placements.

Please find attached the Work Experience Student Self Placement form with this letter. One side of this form needs to be completed by the parents and students and the other side by the employer who has agreed to take the student for the placement. The forms need to be returned as soon as possible and by 8th December at the latest. We are also attaching a parental guide with more information about work experience and Neatherd’s top tips for securing a good placement.

We will hold an Information Evening on Wednesday, 1st November at 6pm in the school canteen for those parents and students who are still unsure about work experience or require further assistance. On the evening you will be able to see a list of companies who have previously offered placements and also hear from Yr11 students who did their placements last year.

Neatherd High School will cover the cost for the health and safety checks for placements in Norfolk and Suffolk as these can be done by County Council. Should your son/daughter wish to have their placement outside of these counties (within England), please speak to us as soon as possible.

We would be very grateful if you can help your child to find a suitable placement, should you require any further assistance or have any queries relating to work experience, please contact Mrs Broughton, work experience co-ordinator, at school or by e-mail, Marion_broughton@neatherd.org.

Yours sincerely
