UEA Summer School

Dear Parent / Carer,

Summer schools are a fantastic opportunity for students from years 9,10 and 11 to learn some new skills and get a first-hand experience into the life of a university student by taking part in fun activities on and off campus, taking part in academic taster sessions, living in a student bedroom, and much more. The summer schools are so popular that we now run multiple dates for the same year group.

When?

  • Year 9a Summer School - 26-27 July
  • Year 9b Summer School - 2-3 August
  • Year 10a Summer School - 8-10 August
  • Year 10b Summer School - 22-24 August
  • Destination 16 - 29-31 August
  • Looked After Children - 14-18 August

Destination 16 is our summer school aimed at Year 11 school leavers who are transitioning into sixth form or college. Slightly different to our year 9 and 10 offering, at Destination 16 we focus on helping to build new skills to equip attendees with the knowledge they need to succeed in their next educational step and, ultimately, progress onto university. These skills are developed alongside academic taster sessions and other inspiring activities.

Who?

Applications are criteria based, so priority will be given to those who meet any of the following:

  • Postcode areas where progression to university is low
  • Pupil premium
  • Looked after children and care leavers
  • Young carers
  • Males
  • Disabilities
  • Those with little or no family or community progression onto university

Applicants should also have the academic ability to progress to university - we verify this by contacting teachers who are listed on students applications. We also use this contact opportunity to discover any information helpful to tailoring the summer school experience so each student can get the most of out of attending
