Online Safety

Dear parents and carers

A reminder to all parents to regularly check the apps and websites used by your children. We deliver an E-Safety workshop to parents at the start of Year 7 and students are taught how to keep themselves safe in lessons via the IT curriculum. If you ever require any more assistance, please contact Mr O'Brien or Mr Humphreys at Neatherd.

Some of the other schools in the Dereham Cluster have already shared information about the app and we share their concerns. This app appears to be an innocent music sharing/ karaoke site with a 12+ age rating and can be accessed via Facebook. However, the app has been infiltrated by adults who have attempted to groom young people. This app has already caused issues for students at Neatherd, which have now been dealt with.

The app rating states: "Infrequent/ mild sexual content and nudity. Fantasy violence, mild alcohol, tobacco or drug use or references to suggestive themes".

Mr O'Brien and Mr Humphreys will be interviewing a random sample of students over the next week to safely test how students would react to certain scenarios online. We will use this information to cover any gaps in the curriculum going forward if necessary.

Best regards

Mr N O'Brien
