Normandy Trip 2018 Initial Letter

Dear Parent/Carer

YEAR 7 CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT WEEK: 9th-13th July 2018

During the week 9th -13th July 2018 all Neatherd Students will have a week off normal timetable for Curriculum Enhancement. For Year 7 this will consist of varied linguistic and multicultural activities in school.

In addition to this, we are also pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to 90 Year 7 pupils to spend five days in Normandy during this week. There are so many benefits to such a trip: linguistically it is an opportunity for our pupils to practise the language learnt in the classroom to increase their fluency and confidence; culturally it provides invaluable insight into many aspects of French life and the history of this most beautiful of regions. A comprehensive programme of activities has been arranged to enhance cultural awareness, including: a trip to a French market with a task to make “THE best picnic lunch in France”, a visit to Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny, a tour of the Bayeux Tapestry museum, and a show-stopping trip to the historic and stunning Mont St. Michel. The group will stay in a beautiful, traditional castle and there will be games and a magic show in the evening. We have run this trip successfully for many years now.

The cost of this trip will be £383.00 to include all food, accommodation, excursions, insurance and travel. We anticipate that there will be considerable demand for places on such a trip and regret that these have to be limited to 90. If you wish your child to participate in this activity, we would ask that you complete the attached reply slip and return to Mrs Lambert in the MFL office (next to Lang 1 and 2) before school or at break-time. An initial deposit of £150.00 will be required to confirm your student’s place by Friday 10th November 2017 and payments can be made via your ParentPay on-line account once the reply slip has been returned. Those choosing not to use this system should make cheques payable to Dereham Neatherd High School and take to the payment collection area (outside Business 1) during Thursday morning break (11.10am-11.25am) only. (Note this is the only day we can receive cheque payments. Please bear this in mind when meeting deadlines). Cash is no longer accepted in school. A letter giving exact details of a payment schedule will then follow once your child has secured a place on the trip, but we expect payments to be during February and April. If your child has FSM status, please contact the school as financial assistance may be available. Please note that if demand should exceed availability, participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis and that your child may go on a waiting list. If the initial deposit is not made by the deadline, we are afraid we cannot hold the place and it will be given to the next student on the waiting list.

It is important to note that your child will need his/her own passport and a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to be able to take part in this trip. Prior to your son/daughter travelling with us you will be required to complete a consent form and supply us with personal information regarding all medical conditions and special dietary needs that he/she may have. These forms will be forwarded to you at a later date. Would you also please read the attached information sheet regarding School Policy on Behavioural Concerns and return both of the reply slips to Mrs Lambert.

Please note that in the event of unforeseen circumstances requiring your son/daughter to drop out of the trip, the school cannot repay any money already paid to the travel company unless the company returns the money to the school or the place can be filled by another paying student.

If you have any questions about the trip or would like to clarify any issues, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Lambert
Head of MFL
