Welcome to the Business Studies department
The subject has been long established at the school, with many of our students choosing to take the subject at A-level.
The subject is taught by one specialist teacher which ensures that students get a consistent approach to their teaching and learning.
The subject is taught in Years 10 and 11 as one of the options. The students follow the AQA specification for their GCSE award.
Through business studies, students gain business knowledge, understanding and skills. They begin to understand current events in local, national and global contexts. They learn how to use relevant terms, concepts and methods effectively to describe business and economic behaviour. Students also consider business ethics and the impact of business on the environment.
Because of the vocational nature of the subject, every effort is given to provide students with a hands on approach towards their learning. This means students are experiencing the subject in “real” situations. To aid their understanding, local businesses are sought to come in and act as guest speakers.
In GCSE Business Studies students must sit two examinations which are both 1 hour 45 minutes in length. Each examination is worth 50% of a student’s final grade. Assessment is based upon multiple choice questions, short questions and long extended questions.
To ensure that support is in place, students can attend a number of support sessions which will be made available. These will be provided after school and during lunchtimes.
