Welcome to the Art and Design department
In the art and design department we offer a variety of different media including painting, drawing, printmaking and photography. We encourage all students to become artistic in their own individual way. Students are taught two hours over two weeks at key stage 3 and five hours over two weeks at key stage 4. We offer both Art and Photography as GCSE subjects.
The staff comprises two full time members of staff fully trained in Art and Photography and we also have one part time member of staff who is a successful Fine Artist.
We are proud of the results our students achieve. The Art students achieved 87.5% A*-C grades in 2012 and 100% A*-G and the Photography cohort gained 86.7% A*-C and 100% A*-G.
The department has two art studios, an Apple Mac suite, a kiln area and a darkroom. Our provision is good for a range of art activities such as printmaking, photography using manual or digital cameras, clay, and construction in various materials.
Students are given the opportunity to take part in a range of extra activities within the department including: London trips to galleries such as Tate Modern and the National Gallery. Students are also given time inside school at lunch and afterschool to improve their skills and creativity.
