Year 7 Curriculum Enhancement trip to Africa Alive

Year 7 Curriculum Enhancement trip to Africa Alive, Thursday 23rd June 2016

As part of the multi-cultural focus of our Curriculum Enhancement Week we are arranging a Year 7 day trip to Africa Alive in Lowestoft on Thursday June 23rd 2016. We anticipate that pupils will experience a thoroughly enjoyable day out whilst gaining an insight into aspects of animal life in Africa and the environmental concerns of the continent. Pupils will tour the park in small groups with a member of staff. (For a closer look at Africa Alive, visit the website: www.africa-alive.co.uk).

The learning objectives for the day will be:

  • To research the differing environments for wildlife in Africa
  • To develop an understanding of the habitats for wildlife in Africa
  • To be able to explain the similarities and differences for wildlife in Africa and the UK

All students will be able to use their Self Manager, and Independent Enquirer skills.

We ask for a parental contribution of £15.00 per pupil towards the cost of entrance to the park, transport and insurance. Payments should be made via our on-line system, ParentPay by Friday 3rd June at the latest, but those choosing not to use this system should make cheques payable to Dereham Neatherd High School and take to the payment collection area (outside Business 1) during Thursday morning break (11.10am-11.25am) only and by Thursday 26th May at the latest.  (Note Thursday is the only day we can receive cheque payments.  Please bear this in mind when meeting deadlines). We recognise that some families may appreciate assistance with the funding for this visit and would ask you to contact me at school if this is the case.

In response to LEA guidelines regarding Educational Visits and Journeys, we require consent for your child to take part in this visit.  For this trip consent can be given via your ParentPay account.  Please see the link within the notes on ParentPay regarding the consent given.  In the notes box, on ParentPay, you will need to enter an emergency contact number for the day in question and also any medical details.  Please ensure that this information only is entered.  If you are unable to use your ParentPay account to give consent or parental contribution please contact the finance office to obtain a paper copy of the consent which will need completing, signing and returning by Thursday 26th May latestPlease note that your son/daughter will not be able to take part in this trip unless consent is completed in full via ParentPay or by paper form and returned by the closure date.

Would you also please ensure that your son/daughter is suitably dressed on the day for whatever the weather has to offer (school uniform is not required) and sound footwear is essential.  The trip will take place during the normal school day with coaches leaving school at 8.50am promptly and returning to school by 3.25pm in time for children to catch their normal transport home.  Pupils who do not participate in this trip will be expected to attend school as normal, in full uniform.  Pupils should bring a packed lunch and a drink – no glass bottles please.  A packed lunch will be provided for those pupils in receipt of free school meals, however; if on this occasion your child will not require it, please let me know . Pupils may wish to bring a small amount of spending money for snacks or souvenirs.

If you have any questions or require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
