Y7 Author Visit
We are delighted to be able to host the first author visit to our school this year. Author Nicole Burstein will be bringing her super hero characters to life by talking about her new book Wonder Boy to Year 7 students on Monday 17th October during P4. The theme links well with the current English scheme of work on heroes and also highlights issues of bullying.
Books will be available to purchase on the day at a discounted rate of £7.00 courtesy of Jarrolds Book Department. Please feel free to bring along a copy if you have one at home, or buy cheaper elsewhere, to have signed. We have found that many students after hearing an author speak/read from their book are keen to own a signed copy and are left disappointed if they have not brought cash on the day.
Wonder Boy is a funny and frank superhero story set in the world of Othergirl.(Burstein’s debut novel in the series)
Joseph ‘Wilco’ Wilkes is one of life’s losers – he’s picked on, pushed around, and bullied by the rugby boys at the posh private school he attends on a scholarship. But his life is about to change: Wilco learns he can move things with his mind. Will this be his chance to play the hero, get the girl and finally stand up for himself? Or are things just going to come crashing down around his head? Becoming a proper hero will be quite the leap of faith...
"A sharply-observed comedy of teen life, with a serious undertone. Amongst the comic-book action Burstein shows what heroism - the kind that calls for real courage – really is, and reminds readers that heroes and villains too are often those we least expect them to be." Students have had a brief taster of the first chapter during library lessons and there has been much excitement and eagerness to find out more. We hope your child will enjoy this fabulous opportunity
