Trip to “FLY”

Dear Parents and Carers,

Trip to “FLY” -  Festival of Literature for Young People: Tuesday 21st June 2016

During Curriculum Enhancement Week we are delighted to offer your child the opportunity to attend the fantastic 2016 FLY event held at University of East Anglia, where your child will have the opportunity to attend workshops and meet amazing authors!

During this all-day event students will be attending the following sessions:

Author talk by Celia Rees - one of Britain’s foremost writers for young people with an international readership and reputation. With historical and supernatural tones in her many edgy, gritty thrillers for teenagers, this promises to be an interesting and insightful talk on gothic writing.

Horrible Histories - style workshop with award winning author William Hussey: William promises to take students on a fascinating tour of terror and prejudice that will astound, chill and even make them laugh by re-enacting a genuine seventeenth century Witch Trial! The session also includes a memorable reading from William’s novel Haunted and an introduction to the life of an author.

Talk and illustrations by the outstanding Children’s Laureate, Chris Riddell:  Chris Riddell is the genius behind a vast range of best-selling and much loved books including Alienography, Ottoline and Goth Girl series. Having won twice before he is again shortlisted this year for the Kate Greenaway Medal with the Sleeper and the Spindle, written by Neil Gaiman.

As you can see the day promises to be an exciting and varied programme. We have 30 places available and there is a nominal charge of £5.00 per student for those who do not receive FSM or are not Pupil Premium.  Students will need to bring a lunch (if they are not FSM or Pupil Premium) and a drink and they will have to wear school uniform. We will be travelling via minibus and will be leaving at 8.45am, returning at 3.30pm. There will also be the opportunity to purchase books (varying from £6- £10), so students will need to bring money if they wish to buy anything.

If your child would like the opportunity to attend then please return the attached reply slip to the library by Friday 13th May. Students will then be selected with priority given to those who have NOT been on an author trip this year and successful applicants will be given a consent form, with payment made by Friday 20th May.

Yours sincerely
