Post-16 Options Evening
Dear Parents and Carers
Post-16 Options Evening on Tuesday 13th October 2015
With mock examinations, revision and GCSE examinations all approaching, Year 11 can be one of the most stressful school years for pupils and parents. In addition to this, you have to look beyond the examination horizon and consider the choices that are available at the end of the year. This is especially important with the change in law meaning pupils have to stay in education or training until the end of the school year in which they turn 18. As a school, we want to support you in this process and are inviting you and your child to our Post-16 Options Evening on Tuesday 13th October 2015.
We have invited local colleges, academies, training service providers, representatives from the Army, Navy and RAF and potential employers into school to enable you and your child to discuss the different options available. You will be able to speak to the different organisations and ask them questions on an individual basis.
Part of the evening will involve a brief presentation in the canteen which will provide vital information about applying for Post 16 provision. If your son or daughter is in house Kett or Carter you are asked to attend the presentation in the canteen at 5.30pm. After this you will have the opportunity to speak to the different providers in the sports hall. If your son or daughter is in house Fry or Cavell we would invite you to attend the presentation in the canteen at 6.15pm. After the presentation you will then also have the opportunity to speak to the different providers in the sports hall. Please note that Dereham Sixth Form College and Norwich City College, two of the most popular leaving destinations for our students, will be located in the Maths rooms just opposite from the sports hall.
On top of this you will also have the opportunity to try out Norfolk County Council’s Help you choose website which holds key Post 16 information for your children and through which the college applications must be completed. Help will be on hand for this in Maths 1.
We hope that by offering two presentations in the canteen we will be able to spread the numbers out for both the presentation and time with the providers. Where possible please stick to your allocated time. If you are unable to make either presentation please feel free to come along later and speak to the providers in the sports hall, they will be available until about 7.45pm. On the evening, please make sure you register in the entrance to the canteen.
