KS3 Technology Project Materials

Dear Parent / Carer

KS3 Technology Project Materials

In KS3 students undertake a wide range of projects in their Design and Technology lessons each academic year. Most projects will result in your son/daughter completing a final product that they will wish to take home. We believe it is important that parents/carers see the work produced and give them praise for their efforts. Since we are able to offer rotations at KS3 pupils will be given the opportunity to complete five projects in Year 7 & 8, and three projects in Year 9.

The Technology Department has a limited store of general core materials which we supply to pupils in order for them to complete the Programme of Study at KS3. These materials, however, are expensive and budgets, as I’m sure you are aware, are small and have to stretch a long way. We recycle projects where able but often pupils wish to take their completed project home and they deserve too. Unfortunately we do not have the funds to be able to gift the quantities of materials that pupils require

Therefore we will be requesting a contribution of £10 towards each pupil’s materials costs for the academic year, so that the Technology Department can continue to consistently supply materials required by pupils.

For food based projects, students will be required to supply the main ingredients for the dishes they will make, although in some cases it will be possible to purchase what is required from school, particularly where the ingredient needed may not be easily obtained in a small quantity.

I hope you understand and appreciate this situation and would like to thank you in advance for your support.

Yours sincerely

Mr J. Chapman

Head of Design Technology
