KS3 Technology Project Materials

Dear Parent / Carer

KS3 Technology Project Materials

I am writing to you for your assistance in order to improve the technology provisions for your son/daughter. In KS3, students undertake a wide range of projects in their Design and Technology lessons during each academic year. Most projects will result in your son/daughter completing a final product that they will wish to take home. We believe it is important that parents/carers see the work produced and give them praise for their efforts. Since we are able to offer rotations for all KS3 classes, pupils will be given the opportunity to complete four projects in each year.

The Technology Department has a limited store of general core materials which we supply to pupils in order for them to complete the Programme of Study at KS3. These materials, however, are expensive and are becoming more expensive, while the school budgets have many competing pressures placed on them. We recycle projects where able, but often pupils wish to take their completed project home and we feel they should be able to do so. Unfortunately we do not have the funds to be able to gift the quantities of materials that pupils require.

Having looked at what other schools do with regards to this, we are requesting a contribution of £10 towards each pupil’s materials costs for the academic year, so that the Technology Department can continue to consistently supply high quality materials required by pupils.

Payments can be made via our on-line system, ParentPay.  Please login to your account and select the appropriate payment.  Those choosing not to use this system, should make cheques payable to Dereham Neatherd High School and take to the payment collection area (outside Business 1) below during Thursday morning break (11.10am-11.25am) only. (Please note this is the only day we can receive cheque payments. Please bear this in mind when meeting deadlines).  We would appreciate this being actioned before October half term to enable equipment to be purchased.

I hope you understand and appreciate this situation and would like to thank you in advance for your support.

Yours sincerely

Mr J Chapman
