Ebook Platform Trial

Dear Parent/Carer

We are delighted to inform you that we are working closely with Norfolk School Library Service and planning to introduce an Ebook platform to allow students to borrow and read books on their own devices such as ipads, smartphones, and tablets. Some E readers may also be compatible, but unfortunately not most Kindle E readers.

You child has the opportunity to be a part of this exciting project and I need to confirm that you are happy for them to take part. However, please be aware of the following points when giving your consent:

  • Your child will not need to bring their device into school as instructions will be provided to explain how to download the apps that will allow books to be borrowed at home. Should your child decide to bring their device into school, it will remain their responsibility to look after it, as the school cannot take responsibility for lost, stolen or broken devices.
  • Downloading apps and books at home will require an internet or mobile data connection dependent on which device is being used and you need to be aware this will require a small amount of data usage. Please check with your internet or mobile data provider for more information on how this may affect your data allowance if you are concerned about this aspect.
  • Most of the Ebooks will work best if the ‘Read Now’ option is chosen, but there is the option to download titles. If your child is under the age of 13, to download titles, they will need you to create an Adobe ID so they can enjoy books without being connected to the internet. This is free and will automatically appear the first time they download a book to read offline.

Data Protection Information (for the user)

The Norfolk School Library Service treats your child’s personal information in the strictest confidence. We record: name, date of birth and a record of their use of the eBook lending platform. The information held will be used for administration of library services: notifications, statistics, monitoring and development. Your child’s personal information will be kept no longer than is necessary for the purposes stated and will not be shared with anyone else without your permission.

Please complete the slip below to confirm that you give permission for your child to take part in this project. Once we have your confirmation, more information will be provided.

Should you have any further questions before giving consent, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Mrs L Gill
