Learn a Musical Instrument
As you may be aware, it is possible for your child to receive instrumental lessons at school. Tuition is available on Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Violin and Viola and Voice. If your child already plays Electric or Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano/keyboard it may also be possible for us to arrange lessons.
These lessons take place during school hours on a rotating basis so that the pupils do not miss out on any particular subject each week. Timetables for the instrumental lessons are displayed in the music department.
Lessons are set at a cost of £32.00 per half term and a letter will be sent to you when a place on the timetable has been confirmed, payable in advance at the beginning of each half term. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Dereham Neatherd High School LM Account’ and should be submitted at the payment collection area at morning break (11.10-11.25pm) every day except Wednesdays.
The price of music lessons is partially subsidised by the school to keep the cost down. We are happy to continue doing so but we do expect that, in return, pupils take part in a lunchtime music activity to take full advantage of their tuition; especially when they are no longer beginners. Activities include Concert Band, Sambrusco (Samba Band), Singing Club/Production and Guitar Club.
The music department do own some musical instruments available for free loan for which there is sometimes a waiting list in operation. It may be of some interest that most music shops offer ‘hire and buy’ schemes. For more information on this or if you have any concerns or questions about instrumental lessons please do not hesitate to contact the music department.
Letters are sent out at the start of the academic year.
