Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice Expedition, 28th - 30th April 2017

Dear Parent and Candidate,

Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Practice Expedition, 28th  - 30th April 2017

As you may already know, your son/daughter has requested to join the practice expedition for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.  We have booked Barnham Broom village hall for the weekend of 28th April until 30th April 2017, and this will be our base for the whole period. The cost of this weekend is £75 per pupil, this will cover the cost of venue, equipment and insurance. It will also cover the cost of the assessment weekend of 14th -16th July 2017. Payment to Dereham Neatherd High School should be made through ParentPay. Those choosing not to use this system should make cheques payable to Dereham Neatherd High School and take to the payment collection area (outside Business 1) during Thursday morning break (11.10am-11.25am). (Please note this is the only day we can receive cheque payments. Please bear this in mind when meeting deadlines).  Cash is no longer accepted in school.

Please complete and sign the parental consent form attached and return it at the lunchtime meeting on Friday 10th or 17th March 2017.  Note: this is the only available time for collection, so please ensure your son/daughter brings the form to the meeting.

The candidates have received a copy of the programme for the weekend and I have also enclosed one with this letter for your information.

We have been providing training sessions at school during lunchtimes, so your child will be aware of what this weekend will entail. They are expected to attend these training sessions. If you would like any further information or have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the school email system or ask your child to send a message through eDofE. They will need their “Bronze books” during the weekend.

Please can we ask that no fresh meat, electrical gadgets and aerosols are brought on the weekend.  Mobile phones will not be needed – we will ensure that each group of candidates are able to contact members of staff in the event of an emergency and they have been made aware of the requirements. Any phones will be kept safe and returned at 4pm on the Sunday.

How to get there:

From Norwich, Take the B1108, through Norwich on the Earlham road, out past UEA and across the A47, continue on the B1108 towards Hingham and Watton. Go through Barford village and about a mile past the village, turn right towards Barnham Broom. At the T junction, turn left, and the village hall is on the right (if you get to the cross roads you have missed it!).

From Dereham, take the B1135 Garvestone road. After approx. 7 miles, at the T junction with the B1108, turn left. Take the next left, signed to Barnham Broom. At the cross roads in the centre of the village, turn right, and the village hall will be on your left after 300m.

Please plan a menu and bring food for the whole weekend as no meals are provided.

Yours sincerely
