Welcome to the History Department

The History Department is committed to teaching history so that it is engaging, thought-provoking and relevant to young people today. We strive to help students to make sense of why things are the way they are in the modern world as well as asking challenging questions about the past. We positively encourage our students to approach what they read, hear and see in a critical way. We seek to encourage students to have a genuine love of history and every year more than one hundred students opt to continue studying it for GCSE. Students are able to study GCSE Classical Civilisation and/or GCSE History at Key Stage 4.

HistoryHomework
Homework shouldn’t be a chore; it should be something that is interesting, enjoyable and supports learning. Our homework projects in years 7, 8 and 9 are an opportunity to show us what you can do, allowing you to be a bit more creative than you can be in the classroom.

Staff
We believe our strength is in our quality of teaching. We are a team of highly motivated and dedicated staff. Members of staff regularly run training sessions at both a regional and national level.

Links
The department has excellent relationships with different organisations; we have previously worked with the Anne Frank Trust and Norfolk Museums service on various projects. We also work in-conjunction with the Holocaust Educational Trust on the Lessons from Auschwitz project for sixth formers.

HistoryTechnology
As a school, we are keen to develop technologies and new ways of working and the history department is very much at the forefront of our direction. Staff employ a range of new technologies, such as Edmodo, to support pupil learning.

Field Visits
The department runs a number of highly popular and successful field visits each year. Each year we run a very popular trip with year 9 to visit and study the Battlefields of the First World War. We have also started running a trip to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum at Easter in year 11.
