DramaDrama

Welcome to the Drama department
The drama department is part of the school’s Creative Arts Faculty. For all creative arts subjects, pupils are taught in mixed ability groups that reflect the reality of life beyond the school classroom. Neatherd has two subject specialists who deliver all drama lessons. Drama is taught where possible in our recently refurbished drama studio.

Key Stage 3
Students studying drama at Key Stage 3 (KS3) are given the opportunity to develop an understanding of the skills necessary for practical drama as well as skills that have a much wider personal, social and professional application. These include team working, social integration, evaluation, analysis, and communication and presentational skills. Students are introduced to a variety of performance skills in Year 7 and their range of theatrical techniques is developed throughout KS3. Thought-provoking and topical issues are often explored through a combination of both theme and text based activities. Topics reflect issues introduced in other areas of the KS3 curriculum. Creative skills are developed through collaborative work with music and art.

Key Stage 4
Drama at Key Stage 4 is an enjoyable if at times demanding option. It is both practical and creative, and it involves a lot of group work. Areas of drama covered include improvisation, rehearsing, and performing.
Attendance on theatre trips and involvement in workshops and in-school performances are essential features of work in drama at Key Stage 4.

Extra-Curricular Involvement
Students of all ages are encouraged to take part in school productions either as performers or technicians. They are also invited to participate in drama and dance performances throughout the year. For example, the Creative Arts Evening and Talent Show.
